Before tea was planted in Darjeeling most of the hills were covered in dense forest. It is said that an English hunter, accompanied by his servant named Jung Bahadur were hunting in these hills. Ever since the mountain has been known as Jungpana.  Jungpana is not an easily accessible estate. There is no road up to it, so you have to climb, or descend 298 steps.
