The Jungpana Tea Estate is a relatively small South facing estate and is near the town of Darjeeling. Its altituderanges between 3,000 and 4,500ft. Before tea was planted in Darjeeling most of the hills were covered in dense forest. It is said that an English hunter, accompanied by his servant named Jung Bahadur were hunting in these hills. They were attacked by a Leopard and in trying to save the hunter Jung Bahadur was mortally wounded. Crying out for water pana, he was carried to a nearby stream where he drank water before he died. Ever since the mountain has been known as Jungpana.

Jungpana is not an easily accessible estate. There is no road up to it, so you have to climb, or descend 298 steps. This must also be done with the sacks of tea once packed in order to get them to transportation.

North Tukvar EX4

The North Tukvar Tea Estate is located on the ridge beyond Darjeeling Town, near the border of Sikkim.  The garden is popularly known as Singla Tea Garden. 1st Flush Darjeeling Snowview EX4

1st Flush Darjeeling
Snowview EX4

Nestled between the mountains of Bhutan and the flat Himalayan plains you will find Snow View Tea Garden. This garden has been cultivating tea since 1870 and gets its name from the snowcapped Himalayan Mountain range which can be seen from the Estate on a clear day.  It is surrounded by three forest reserves (Gorumara, Jaldakah, and Chapramari), and the river Moortee runs along the lower border of the tea garden.  The garden is considered a bio diversity hotspot with animals such as Elephant, Bison, Leopards, Rhinos, Wild Deer and Wild Boar which can be spotted occasionally when they venture out of the surrounding forests.  Snow View also falls under the migratory path of the Elephants. The herds regularly travel across the Estate between the forests in order to drink and bathe in Moortee river. The tea garden has recently partnered with The Wildlife Enterprise, which is an independent organisation striving to protect Elephant populations. In 2020 Snow View became the first tea garden in Darjeeling to be awarded with Elephant Friendly Tea Garden certification.  Snow View is at an elevation of 1,000 metres, and covers 600 hectares, supporting 700 workers and their families.

1st Flush Darjeeling

1st Flush Darjeeling
Phoobsering DJ3

Phoobsering was very simply named after the man who was its first “Sardar” or Supervisor. Not much of the garden’s history remains in public memory, probably because of the number of times the Estate changed hands since its inception in the mid 1800s. We have no idea why a lowly local Supervisor called Phoob Tshering was immortalised. Perhaps it is apt that a veil of mystery surrounds the garden’s past, just as the veil of mists that envelop its 510 hectares of land. The Estate ranges from 3,000ft to 6,000ft in altitude and has a total planted area of 240.52 hectares yielding around 100 MT of tea per year. In this valley, the cool mountain air makes the bushes grow gradually and the climatic conditions ensure that the tea leaves absorb that special Darjeeling muscatel aroma to the fullest extent.

This tea was picked on the 3rd April 2024, and packed on the 4th.  It has a well made green leaf with silver tip and a bright orange liquor. The flavour is slightly sweet and fruity.

Use freshly drawn boiled water that has cooled for 2 minutes and brew for 3-5 minutes, depending on personal taste.

Risheehat literally means, `house of saints'. The garden was created by British planters in the mid-19th century and was known as Tsering Bagan due to the local population of the Tsering tribe.
