Teas of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) From around the world

James Taylor is cited as the first man to introduce tea to Sri Lankan soil around 1852. At the time, coffee was the countries mainly produced and exported crop, but a blight in 1869 wiped out the majority of coffee estates leaving the farmers with just one direction to turn. They planted out tea in great droves and the plant took to the soil and climate, with it’s unique central mountain range and double monsoon, well. Today Sri Lanka is the fourth largest producer of tea.
